World Heart Day 2025

DMC&H and Hero DMC Heart Institute (HDHI) marked World Heart Day 2025  by spreading awareness about cardiovascular health. This year’s theme, “Don’t Miss a Beat”, was reflected across a series of community-focused initiatives aimed at prevention, education, and life-saving skills training.

To commemorate the day, DMC&H organized an array of activities in the main lobby of HDHI. These included free Blood Pressure (BP) and Sugar Screening, Yoga, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Diet and Stress Management sessions, and hands-on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training for the general public. Around 250 participants were benefitted. In addition to this, Dr Shibba Takkar Chhabra, Professor, Department of Cardiology delivered an awareness talk on Cardiac Health at Sutlej Club, Ludhiana. These activities not only encouraged participants to adopt healthier lifestyles but also educated them on early detection and preventive measures against heart diseases.

As part of the Mission Swasth Kavach initiative, Dr. Bishav Mohan, Chief Cardiologist cum Coordinator, HDHI, led an extensive training program for government teachers and students from Ludhiana district. The training focused on essential life-saving skills such as CPR and BP/Sugar screening techniques. This large-scale initiative, organized in collaboration with the District Administration, reached more than 400 schools, both government and private. Over the course of three days, teachers and students were provided hands-on training with the support of DMC&H volunteers. Remarkably, to date, more than 25,000 students and teachers have been trained in blood pressure measurement, and over 10,000 individuals have received practical CPR training.

Dedicating World Heart Day, HDHI also organized a two-day free heart check-up camp for the farming community at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) on 26th and 27th September 2025. The camp was inaugurated by Dr. S.S. Gosal, Vice Chancellor of PAU, along with Dr Anurag Chaudhary, Professor & Head, Department of Community Medicine, DMC&H, Dr Hitant Vohra, Professor & Head, Department of Anatomy, DMC&H, Dr. Gautam Singal, Associate Professor, Department of Cardiology, DMC&H and Dr Ankit Gulia, DM Resident, Cardiology. A total of 1010 individuals were screened during the camp, of which 120 were found newly hypertensive (12%), while 80 individuals were diagnosed with diabetes (8%). All attendees were benefitted with free blood pressure and sugar screening, expert doctor consultation, and distribution of free medicines. Hands-on CPR training was performed by 130 participants. To further spread awareness, educational flyers and booklets on hypertension in regional languages were distributed among the participants. The camp also witnessed active participation from NSS volunteers of PAU, who provided valuable support to doctors and attendees throughout the program.

Shri Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H Managing Society, shared that the World Heart Day celebration reflects DMC&H’s strong commitment to providing the best healthcare to the community. He emphasized that the institution will continue to organize outreach and community-centered programs to raise awareness, promote early detection, and extend quality care to all, especially underserved populations.

Dr. G.S. Wander, Principal, DMC&H, noted that World Heart Day is a reminder of our shared responsibility for heart health. He emphasized DMC&H’s focus on awareness, prevention, and training to ensure access to quality care for all.

Dr. Bishav Mohan, Chief Cardiologist cum Coordinator, highlighted that in cardiac emergencies, every second matters. Training communities in CPR empowers them to act quickly and save lives.

The celebration of World Heart Day 2025 at DMC&H and HDHI reinforced the vital importance of cardiovascular health awareness. Through diverse activities, impactful outreach programs, and collaborative initiatives with schools and rural communities, the institution once again demonstrated its commitment to saving lives, promoting prevention, and ensuring that no heartbeat is missed.
