Dayanand Medical College & Hospital (DMC&H) has achieved a remarkable milestone in the field of organ transplantation and medical care. In a heartwarming and lifesaving initiative, the hospital successfully conducted an in-house cadaveric organ retrieval and transplantation, underscoring its commitment to advanced medical services and saving lives.

This extraordinary achievement was made possible when a 56-year-old female patient from Ludhiana, admitted to DMC&H, was declared brain dead.

With the collaborative efforts of Critical Care Team, Anaesthesia team led by Dr P L Gautam and Liver Transplant team under the guidance of Dr Gursagar Singh Sahota successfully retrieved the donor’s organs. The family’s courageous decision to donate her organs turned a moment of grief into a beacon of hope for multiple patients battling life-threatening conditions.

The Liver of the deceased was transplanted at DMC&H by in-house Liver Transplant team to a liver cirrhosis patient and both the kidneys were shifted to 2 private hospitals through green corridor and the both corneas were preserved in the Corneal Bank to restore vision for two individuals in need.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Gursagar Singh Sahota, Chief Liver Transplant SurgeonDMC&H said that the patient was suffering from liver damage since long time and was in urgent need of a liver transplant. This noble act of donor’s family gave a new lease of life to this liver patient.

In his message, Sh Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H Managing Society, stated that DMC&H extends its gratitude to the donor and her family. He appreciated the team and acknowledged their hard work for putting efforts in making this extraordinary gift possible for those in need and worked tirelessly through day & night. Every organ donor is a hero who leaves behind a legacy of life highlighted Sh Gupta.

Dr. G. S. Wander, Principal of DMC&H, commended the teams involved for their exemplary work and stated, This success highlights our dedication to providing world-class healthcare and fostering a culture of organ donation. We hope this act inspires others to consider organ donation as a means of saving lives.

The donor’s body was escorted back to her residence with full honor and a heartfelt tribute was paid by the hospital staff.
