World Parkinson's Day observed

On the occasion of World Parkinson's Day, the Department of Neurology at DMC&H hosted an interactive seminar to raise awareness and knowledge of Parkinson's disease. Patients with Parkinson's disease and their caretakers attended this session.

Dr. BS Paul, Professor, introduced the audience to the DBS-Deep Brain Stimulation treatment. He stated that this could be beneficial for people who have had Parkinson's disease for more than 5 years, as well as patients who are experiencing negative effects from their medications.

Dr. Sandeep Puri, Principal of DMC&H, praised the department for organizing the seminar and appreciated the patients and attendees for their attendance. He believes that for people with inactive Parkinson's disease, frequent physical activity should be a part of their daily routine.

Dr. Gagandeep Singh, Head of Neurology, inaugurated a DBS (Deep Brain Stimulation) clinic that will be open every Friday. DBS is used to treat patients who have tremors, stiffness, or slowness. This clinic could assist them in improving their usual work.

Dr. Sanjeev Rawat, Yoga Consultant at DMC&H, led a yoga session to show easy breathing exercises that may be done while seated to help the patient maintain a peaceful mentality. A Physical Rehabilitation activity was also held to teach attendants how to assist patients walk better. Patients were instructed to exercise for at least half an hour five days a week.

According to Dr. Monika Singla, Prof, Neurology, there are no special dietary limitations for Parkinson's patients, and they should consume fibre and one form of protein in their diet every day.
