                                             World Heart Day observed

Every year on September 29th, World Heart Day is commemorated with the purpose to raise awareness about heart disease and ways to prevent it. "Use Heart for Every Heart" is the theme for this year. A talk on cardiovascular disease was held for the workers and the general public to honour this day and raise awareness of the condition.

Secretary DMCH Managing Society Sh Prem Kumar Gupta was the chief guest for the event. Principal Dr Sandeep Puri, Vice Principal and Chief Cardiologist HDHI Dr G S Wander, Medical Sudtts. Dr Bishav Mohan and Dr Sandeep Sharma, Dr Triza Jiwan Principal College of Nursing DMCH, Dr Sandeep Kaushal Dean Academics, Dr Anurag Chaudhary Professor & Head Department of Community Medicine and other faculty members were present on the occasion.

Students from the MBBS batches of 2020 and 2021 took part in the discussion and gave their opinions on the innovation in hypertension screening and its management. Additionally, the HBP-9030 automated BP measuring equipment was unveiled during the occasion. This equipment will provide reliable measurement, is simple to operate by one person, and allow findings to be sent to a computer and any other device.

In his message, Secretary DMCH Managing Society Sh. Prem Kumar Gupta, praised the efforts of the Hero DMC unit to hold this event on World Heart Day and noted that the DMCH and Hero DMC Heart Institute have always been at the forefront of conducting health awareness sessions for both staff and the general public.

According to Dr G S Wander, Chief Cardiologist HDHI, Stress and a sedentary lifestyle are the primary causes of hypertension as it affects crucial organs including the heart, kidneys, and brain, this can result in other life-threatening disorders. He also encouraged people to take the necessary steps to maintain their physical and emotional well-being.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Bishav Mohan explained that the Indian Hypertension Control Initiative (IHCI) is a project being carried out by DMCH in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Indian Council for Medical Research to address the rising cases of hypertension in the Ludhiana District (ICMR). According to Dr. Bishav, more than 25000 people have been examined at more than 100 camps held under this project at various Industries, large corporate hospitals, public health centres, and private clinics around the district. Further Dr Bishav Mohan acknowledged the efforts of the industrialist to be a part of this project.

Department of Medical Surgical Nursing of DMCH College of Nursing organized a health assessment & awareness camp was also conducted at at Baba Sangat Singh ji Gurudwara, Malakpur. The event was conducted under the able guidance of Dr. (Mrs.) Triza Jiwan. The camp was started with a rally from DMCH College of Nursing to Baba Sangat Singh ji Gurudwara, Malakpur followed by the inaugural ceremony. Mrs. Bindu K Prof. and HOD welcomed the gathering by addressing about the importance of this day. Dr. Ashwani K Chaudhary, Medical Superintendent and HOD motivated the community and said that by getting involved with such events we are empowered to spread awareness and help make a difference in the lives of all humankind
