World Diabetes Day Observed World Diabetes day observed every year on 14th November. The Department of Endocrinology of the DMCH today observed World Diabetes Day by organizing a free sugar check-up camp for general public at OPD Block of DMCH. The theme for World Diabetes Day this year is “Access to Diabetes Care: if not now, when?” and this year marks the 100th anniversary of the discovery of insulin. Diabetes is a disease that occurs when your blood glucose (blood sugar) is too high. Blood glucose is your main source of energy and comes from the food we eat, having too much glucose in your blood can cause health problems. Secretary of DMCH Managing Society-Sh Prem Kumar Gupta said that DMCH is regularly conducting such health awareness program for the benefit of the society. Dr Parminder Singh (Professor & Head of Endocrinology) said that Diabetes is a major concern worldwide and it is the major cause of blindness, kidney failure, stroke, lower limb amputation and it increases the risk of heart attack 2 to 4 time more . Although diabetes has no cure, patient can take steps to manage your diabetes and stay healthy. According to Dr Naveen Mittal (Professor, Department of Endocrinology) sedentary lifestyle and lack of physical exercise are some of the major causes of diabetes Dr Saurabh Arora (Assistant Professor, Department of Endocrinology) said the major symptoms of diabetes included increased thirst and urination, increased hunger, blurred vision, unexplained weight loss, numbness or tingling in the feet or hands. If any person feels any such symptoms he/she should immediately consult to doctor and get the required tests done to know about the level of blood glucose. In 2019 approximately 463 million adults (20-29years) had diabetes and this is anticipated to increase 700 million by 2045. (International Federation of Diabetes)  Back To Home Page
