WORLD FIRST AID DAY 14th,Sep 2019

On the occasion of World First Aid Day an awareness lecture was held today in Medicine OPD Block of the hospital. The lecture was conducted by Health Education Cell of DMCH under the guidance of Dean Academics Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina, who is in-charge of Health Education Cell also.
Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina, in his message said, that Health Education Cell of DMCH has been quite active in organizing health awareness lectures on special health days. On World First Aid Day today, Dr Chhina emphasized that general public should know well of applying First Aid techniques to injured or sick person because if these techniques are applied with proper knowledge then, many lives can be saved.
Dr Harmeet Singh Dhooria, Associate Professor of Medicine, shared with audience expertise of applying effective First Aid incase of sudden snake bites, which is quite rampant in monsoon season. Some of the advisable precautions incase of snake bite include:-
Ø Move the person beyond striking distance of the snake.
Ø Have the person lie down with wound below the heart.
Ø Keep the person calm and at rest, remaining as still as possible to keep venom from spreading.
Ø Cover the wound with loose, sterile bandage.
Ø Remove any jewelry from the area that was bitten.
Ø Remove shoes if the leg or foot was bitten.
Dr Sanjeev Uppal (Professor & Head of Plastic Surgery) also gave a very interesting lecture on First Aid techniques incase of various injures including road accident, strike, sudden faiting , hemorrhage and other critical conditions.
A patient dummy was also kept to show the patients and their attendants
about the real applying of First Aid Skills.
A role play was also held on the concerned topic by students of College of Nursing.
