Punjab Orthopaedics Annual Conference (POACON-2013) under the aegis of Punjab Orthopaedic Association was held in the hospital auditorium. Dr SS Gill, Vice-Chancellor, BFUHS, inaugurated the conference. Speaking on the occasion, Dr SS Gill highlighted the importance of training in super specialities and for continued medical education in the field of orthopaedics and trauma care in view of the increasing number of cases in road and industrial accidents. He called upon the medical faculty to be upgraded with the modern techniques to provide the best services to the humanity. Also present on the occasion were Principal Dr Daljit Singh, Dr. SKS Marya (President, Indian Orthopaedic Association), Dr Ravi Gupta (President, Punjab Orthopaedic Association) and Dr SS Sangwan (Vice-Chancellor, Pt. Bhagwan Dayal Sharma Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Rohtak)
Organizing Chairman-Dr Mohammad Yamin extended warm welcome to the dignitaries present on the occasion. In his address, he said that Orthopaedic surgery has made tremendous advances in the field of orthopaedics during the past two decades, especially in surgical techniques like replacement of joints and arthroplasty.”
Dr Rajnish Garg, Organizing Secretary and Professor of Orthopaedics at DMCH, said, “Orthopaedic surgery has made tremendous advances in the field of Orthopaedics during the past two decades, especially in surgical techniques like replacement of joints and arthroplasty.” Conducting of such conferences provide an opportunity to the young and experienced orthopaedic surgeons to exchange their expertise and update their knowledge, said Dr Garg He informed that about 250 orthopaedic surgeons from Punjab and neighbouring states attended the conference.
The guest speakers from different parts of the country shared their experiences on different aspects including Post operative problems faced in orthopaedic surgery, Minimal invasive endoscopic spine surgery, acetabular and pelvic fractures, managment of Scoliosis & tendinopathies and Recent advances in management of Giant-cell tumor (GCT)
Invited faculty from reputed medical institutions including AIIMS New Delhi, PGIMER Chandigarh, PGIMS Rohtak, Government Medical College, Amritsar and Patiala delivered lectures on recent advancements in the field of Orthopaedics.
To give stimulus to young orthopaedic surgeons, two sessions were devoted to research papers by young orthopaedic surgeons. Papers on trauma and joint replacement were presented during the conference. This conference was accredited for 4 hours by Punjab Medical Council. |
