Every day, almost 800 women die in pregnancy or childbirth, which threatens the well-being of surviving children. Of the hundreds of thousands of women who die during pregnancy or childbirth each year, ninety per cent live in developing and under-developed nations. The majority of women usually die from severe bleeding, infections, eclampsia, obstructed labour and the consequences of unsafe abortions.
During the exhibition, it was suggested that the great majority of maternal deaths can be prevented through simple cost-effective measures, which can be implemented even where resources are scarce. The core strategies that were demonstrated to improve maternal and newborn health include:-
-
Access to family planning – counseling, services, and supplies
-
