Brain Bee Quiz-2012 held

Department of Neurology, DMCH organized 3rd Ludhiana Regional Brain Bee Neurosciences Quiz-2012 . The function was formally inaugurated by Vice-President of DMCH Managing Society- Sh Amrit Nagpal and Principal Dr Daljit Singh and Dean Academics Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina gave away prizes to the winning and participating teams.

Giving information about the quiz program, Professor & Head of Neurology-Dr. Gagandeep Singh said Brain Bee Quiz Competition on Neurosciences is held for the students who have exceptional credentials in biology and have an interest to pursue careers in healthcare. This contest is conducted on a regional level at more than 25 cities and subsequently at national level in participating countries and culminated at the International level. This   time National Brain Bee quiz will be conducted at Ludhiana in April, 2013, he informed.  Dr. Rajinder Bansal, Professor of Neurology at DMCH, remarked it as a novel effort to initiate the young minds into the realm of neurosciences, which aims to arouse the interest of highly motivated children to take up a career in neurosciences

Dr. Monika Singla, the Co-ordinator of the quiz programme informed that The Brain Bee Quiz in India is a live question and answer competition about neuroscience for high school children with Biological Sciences. The best young brains in India are quizzed about the brain and how it relates to intelligence, memory, emotions, aging, sleep and brain disorders such as drug addiction, Alzheimer’s and stroke.The Brain Bee Quiz is an attempt to motivate our youth to learn about the brain, capture their imagination and inspire them to pursue careers in biomedical brain research.

The quiz was conducted by Dr. Monika Singla and Dr. Birinder Singh Paul and the judges include Dr. Sanjeev Uppal, head of Plastic surgery, Dr Deepinder Chhina and Dr J S Goraya. The 9 rounds on the study of human brain and neurosciences, included oral tests, written tests, a neuroanatomy of human brains, audio-visual rounds and rapid fire rounds. Students from XIth class medical students from various schools of Ludhiana were quizzed on facts about the brain. Mayank Mittal from BCM Arya Model Sr.Secondary School was the winner. Punit Kaur from Sacred Heart Convent School was 1st runner up and Heena Thakur from Green Land Senior Secondary School was 2nd runner up. The winner would then compete in the national finals. The national champion would then compete in the international finals in the USA.
