National Conference on Hypertension held
Hero DMC Heart Institute organized two-day “21st National Conference of Hypertension Society of India” on 20th and 21st October. Chief Cardiologist-Dr GS Wander, who was also the chairperson of the conference, extended warm welcome to the dignitaries and the participating delegates.Eminent speakers from India & abroad graced the conference. It was attended by more than 100 delegates.The conference was formally inaugurated yesterday evening by the Chief Guest-Dr SS Gill, Vice Chancellor, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences.
The conference included comprehensive scientific sessions on various aspects of hypertension and its associated problems by distinguished faculty from various parts of the country including Dr KK Talwar, Former Director of PGIMER, Chandigarh,Dr Rajesh Kumar from PGIMER,Chandigarh, Dr Shashank Joshi from Mumbai, Dr. BM Hegde, Dr C Venkata S.Ram form Hyderabad, Dr Sandhya A. Kamath from Mumbai, Dr Siddharth S Shah and Dr YP Munjal from Delhi. The two-day conference was granted 8 credit hours by Punjab Medical Council.
The highlight of concluding day of the conference was “Presidential Oration” by Dr GS Wander on the topic ‘Mercury Controversy’. In his presentation, Dr Wander elaborated the ongoing controversy regarding the use of mercury in medical devices like the blood pressure measuring instruments. He threw light on the existing sources of mercury in the medical industry, its toxic effects on mankind and environment and also brought forth the data on alternative mercury free, blood pressure monitoring instruments. He suggested that taking cue from l European countries who have now adopted a policy of using mercury free medical devices, a serious consideration should be given to slowly introduce such safe devices into clinical practice. |
