National Conference of Medical Statistics held
Department of Community Medicine at DMCH organized organized three-day 30th Annual National Conference of Indian Society for Medical Sciences (ISMSCON-2012) in Dumra Auditorium. The conference is organized on the theme “Understanding & Translating Staitsical & Epidemiological Innovation into Biomedical Research” which is apt considering the world wide celebrations of the International Year of Statistics in 2012.
The conference was formally inaugurated by Prof. TCA Anant ( Secretary, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation,Government of India) along with Vice Chancellor of Baba Farid University of Health Science-Dr SS Gill,who was Guest of Honour. Also present,during the inauguration, were Dr T Krishnan, Dr RJ Yadav, Member of Managing Society-Sh G C Dhawan, Principal Dr Daljit Singh,Dr Sunil Katyal, Dr Anurag Chaudhary and Dr RK Soni.
According to Organizing Chairperson- Dr Anurag Chaudhary (Professor & Head of Community Medicine), the conference is being organized for the first time in the region since the inception of Indian Society for Medical Sciences in 1983. The conference will give the participating delegates an ample opportunity to learn several areas of bio statistics and their application in the field of public health,medicine,nursing,epidemiology,biology,reproductive and child health and health economics,said Dr Anurag Chaudhary.
Organizing Secretary-Dr RK Soni informed that the conference today began with Dr SK Bhattacharya Oration by Dr VK Srivastava from Lucknow who is Vice-Chancellor of Texila American University in Guyana,South America. The chairpersons,during the oration,were Dr Rajesh Kumar from Chandigarh, Dr Arvind Pandey from New Delhi and Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina from DMCH,Ludhiana. Dr Dhrijesh Kumar Tiwari, Director, Central statistical Organization(CSO) delivered a lecture on 'DevInfo' which is a powerful database system managed by UNICEF that is used to compile and disseminate data on human development issues, followed by lecture on “Census Methodology-Future Innovations” Mrs. Seema Jain (Joint Secretary & Director, Census-Government of Punjab).Approximately 450 delegates from India and abroad are coming to attend the conference.
Paper presentations on the topics of 'Statistics', 'Epidemiology', 'Communicable and Non-Communicable Diseases were also made by several guest speakers from various parts of the country. |
