National Voluntary Blood Donation Day observed
Department of Immunohematology & Transfusion Medicine today celebrated National Voluntary Blood Donation Day by honoring more than 80 social organizations and faculty members of DMCH,who have been regularly donating blood for the last several years.
Dr Amarjit Kaur (Professor & Head of Transfusion Medicine) extended warm welcome to the dignitaries and representatives of various social organization present on the occasion. She acknowledged the contribution of such social organizations,who have been regularly donating blood for the welfare of humanity.
Secretary of DMCH Managing Society-Sh Prem Kumar Gupta along with Principal Dr Daljit Singh, Dean Academics Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina, Medical Supdts. Dr Sandeep Puri and Dr Ashawni Chaudhary honoured representatives of the social organizations by giving away momentos. Secretary Sh Prem Kumar Gupta informed that Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana has recently pioneered a new era in blood safety by becoming the first hospital in Punjab to implement Individual Donor Nucleic Acid Amplification Testing (ID-NAT), for blood screening. “We have decided to introduce ID-NAT testing in DMCH as this is an international standard blood screening test and has caught many cases of HIV-1, HCV and HBV infections that were missed by regular tests. We feel, with this new technique, DMCH patients can be surer that utmost care is taken for their safety”, sad Sh Prem Kumar Gupta
In his address to the audience, Principal Dr Daljit Singh expressed that the joy of giving blood is something beyond words. Donating blood and saving a precious life is an exhilarating feeling. One should always donate blood whenever possible and should encourage others to do it.
