To mark the 21st International Thalassemia Day & World Red Cross Day, Departments of Transfusion Medicine and Pediatrics and Punjab Thalassemics Welfare Society (PTWS) today jointly organized “13th Annual Medicos Voluntary Blood Donation Camp” at DMCH. The camp got started with an inaugural function, which was graced by the presence of Chief Guest-Sh. Prem Gupta (Secretary of Managing Society), Principal Dr. Daljit Singh, Dean Academics Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina, Chief Cardiologist Dr.G.S.Wander and Medical Supdt. Dr. Sandeep Puri. 200 units of blood were collected during the camp.
Professor & Head of Transfusion Medicine- Dr Amarjit Kaur extended warm welcome to the dignitaries and donors present on the occasion. In her message, she urged all healthy people to voluntarily come forward to donate blood for the children diagnosed with thalassemia.
Mrs Sangeeta Jain (Secretary, PTWS) proposed a vote of thanks to those present on the occasion and acknowledged the contribution of doctors and technicians of Transfusion Medicine Department. Mrs Rashmi Karwa (Vice-President, PTWS) expressed her gratitude to NGOs including Mrs. Rama Munjal (President of Arpita Cancer Society), Salaam Zindagi, Live, Nikhil Nobel Trust and Har Har Astha Sewa Parivar.
Professor of Pediatrics and In-charge of Thalassemia Unit -Dr. Praveen C. Sobti said the unit is presently catering to the need of 300 children, who are being given state-of- art treatment at this centre at highly subsidized charges.
The faculty who donated blood started with Medical Supdt.- Dr.Sandeep Puri, who holds the distinction of donating blood 80th time and other faculty members who donated blood Dr Gagandeep Singh, Dr Gautam Ahluwalia, Dr Sarit Sharma, Dr PPS Gill, Dr Jaspal Singh Dr Gautam Biswas, Dr Deepak Bhat, Dr Shalini Arora, Dr Bharti Mahajan, Dr Virendar Pal Singh, Dr Kirandeep Kaur, Chief Dietician Ritu Sudhakar. Other than the faculty members, senior residents, PG residents, interns, medical and nursing students also donated blood. |
