Pediatric Hematology Oncology, Unit of Dept of Pediatrics, Dayanand Medical College & Hospital is starting a new clinic called “Passport 2 life” to focus on follow-up of childhood cancer survivors.

The clinic was inaugurated on the auspicious occasion of Baisakhi and will be open every second Friday of the month. The outcome of childhood cancer is now improving and many children are now surviving for years after completing the treatment. Survivors of childhood cancer have specific health & psychological needs which often get ignored in a busy Oncology OPD. The clinic has been started so that more focus is given to the children who come for follow-ups and to integrate them into the society.

 Mrs Rama Munjal, President, Arpita Cancer Society & Dr Sandeep Puri, Principal, DMCH congratulated the children & their parents and the Dept  of Pediatrics for this initiative.

The survivors were introduced as chief guests by Dr. Shruti Kakkar, incharge of Paediatric Oncology, who also briefly updated the audience on their road to recovery. Dr. Puneet A. Pooni, Head of the Paediatrics Department, and Dr. Deepak Bhat, Professor of Paediatrics, presented them with awards.

Dr. Puneet Pooni commended the parents of the survivors for entrusting DMCH with their care. She also praised the survivors' fortitude for fighting with such fervour and wished them luck for the future.

Dr. Deepak Bhat stated that fighting cancer requires teamwork, and he urged cancer survivors to schedule routine checkups and make the most of the "Passport2 Life" clinic.
