STEMI Project at DMCH celebrates its anniversary
STEMI project at DMCH saved the lives of over 50 people after its inception in July 2021 last year. This project was launched to enable optimal heart care and to save many lives as possible.
To mark the celebration of saving 50 lives under ICMR STEMI project a meeting was conducted at DMCH. The chief guest for the meeting was Dr. Hatinder Kaur, Civil Surgeon Ludhiana, Dr. Bishav Mohan Professor Deparment of Cardiology and Medical Supt. Hero DMC Heart Institute and Medical Officers from various spoke centres were also present on the occasion.
This project had been initiated by ICMR, Delhi in Ludhiana District with Dayanand Medical College and Hospital as the HUB center and 12 other government and private health care facilities as the spoke centres. All the doctors and staff have been trained at DMCH and these spoke centre have been set up with well equipped facilities to provide best treatment for the patients suffering from heart attack through clot busting medicine tenecteplase and its cost is around 25, 000 to 30,000 and it provides free of cost at these centres to the patients with myocardial infarction (heart attack) within the golden hour (first 90 minutes)
In his message, Secretary DMCH Managing Society, Sh Prem Kumar Gupta congratulated the whole team for doing commendable service for saving lives of the people.
Dr G S Wander, Vice Principal and Chief Cardiologist Hero DMC Heart Institute, appealed to people not to ignore any symptom related to chest pain and ECG should be done immediately and if its heart attack then clot buster to be given as soon as possible if no contra indications.
Dr. Bishav Mohan Professor Department of Cardiology and Medical Supt. Hero DMC Heart Institute welcomed the chief guest to grace the occasion. In his address, Dr Bishav Mohan Highlighted that, before launching this project patients from rural areas had to be referred to the multi specialty hospital for the further treatment, and death often occurred due to the travelling time. ‘With this project we are able to provide the optimal cardiac care services to the rural community and save their lives’ said Dr Bishav. Dr. Aaina Dhanda (SRF) shared the one year journey of the project.
During the meeting various protocols related to implementation, challenges and experiences were discussed by the medical officers for the further implementation and completion of this project.
In her addres, Dr. Hatinder Kaur, Civil Surgeon Ludhiana appreciated the efforts of the team and congratulated for conducting this meeting. ‘To ensure the smooth functioning of this project, it is responsibility of the health department to spread awareness among the general public in rural areas so that this project will be beneficial for them’ highlighted Dr Hatinder.
