DMCH expands GI Endoscopy complex
To cater the increased patient load and make endoscopic procedures more comfortable, a state of art endoscopy recovery complex was inaugurated on 2nd April, 2022 at the department of Gastroenterology at Dayanand Medical College Hospital (DMCH), Ludhiana.
Mr. Prem Kumar Gupta, Secretary DMCHManaging Society, was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony. Speaking on the occasion Mr Gupta appreciated the services and contributions of the department of Gastroenterology in providing quality patient care.
Established in the year 1991, department of Gastroenterology is one of the biggest gastroenterology units in northern India, attending nearly 70,000 outpatients and 5000 inpatients apart from performing more than 10,000 endoscopic procedures annually, Mr Gupta said. The department of Gastroenterology also boasts of being one of the best academic and research oriented departments in the country.
Dr Ajit Sood, Professor and Head Department of Gastroenterology, informed that the department is among the first few centers in India to start advanced endoscopic procedures including third space endoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound, enteroscopy and capsule endoscopy. Recently, the department has completed 100 POEMs, a highly specialized endoscopic treatment for patients with achalasia. The department is also a high volume center for FibroScan, breath tests, colon transit time and esophageal and anorectal manometries.
Dr Varun Mehta and Dr Omesh Goyal, Professors of Gastroenterology, briefed about the achievements of the department and said that the department has 100 bedded ward with a dedicated 17-bed gastroenterology intensive care unit. The department also provides round the clock emergency and endoscopy services.
