| World Mental Health Week (3rd Oct-10th Oct) |
| “World Mental Health Week†was observed from 3rd October to 10th October. The week was organized by Department of Psychiatry, DMCH and got concluded today by conducting awareness talk in OPD Block today. The theme of “World Mental Health Week†this year was “Suicide Prevention†which has acquired manifold dimensions, due to present day stress and other factors.
During the whole week, awareness sessions on ‘Suicide Prevention’ were being held in various locations of the hospital premises including reception area of Hero DMC Heart Institute, Dumra Auditorium and OPD Block.
Secretary of DMCH Managing Society-Sh Prem Kumar Gupta was invited as the chief guest and he graced the occasion.
Dr Ranjive Mahajan (Professor & Head of Psychiatry) addressed the gathering of dignitaries and patients present on the occasion. In his address, Dr Ranjive Mahajan said that this year ‘World Mental Health Week’ focuses on “Suicide Preventionâ€. Every year around 8 lacs people end their lives due to suicide, and mainly these people are from 15 to 30 years old. It is important that a person should always discuss his problems and other worries with his close family members and friends etc.
Dr Navkiran Mahajan (Professor of Psychiatry) said that the “World Mental Health Week†every year focuses on maintaining good mental health and taking precautions of other factors associated with it. She said that all of us can make a significant effort in preventing suicide among younger generation of people, by helping them out through cordial listening and counseling them.
Principal Dr Sandeep Puri acknowledged the efforts of Department of Psychiatry in organizing this awareness week and contribute in generating awareness about preventing suicide.
A very informative role play was also conducted by the members of DMC youth club on Suicide Prevention and poster making competition was also held by the B Sc Nursing students and winners were given prizes by the dignitaries present on the occasion. |
