Doc delivers a talk on ‘liver diseases’ during dengue
Dean Academics-Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina (Professor & Head of Gastroneterology) recently delivered a lecture on the topic ‘Hepatic Involvement in Tropical Disease’ He delivered the lecture at 6th Biennial Conference of Gastrointestinal Infection Society of India held in AIIMS, Bhopal. During his lecture, Dr Chhina elaborated on the involvement of liver in various tropical diseases, especially focusing on dengue.
According to Dr Chhina, Tropical diseases are the diseases that are prevalent in tropical and subtropical regions and when a person gets affected by dengue virus, it also attacks the cells that cause inflammation in the liver. There are certain enzymes in a human body which gets increased in the blood during Dengue fever and may cause complications including damage to liver, says Gastrointestinal expert Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina
Liver damage in dengue infection is not preventable, but doctors can stop such medicines which can prevent damage to the live, Dr Chhina added. He said, "Liver involvement is more commonly seen in those who have dengue haemorrhagic fever, a severe form of dengue. Early detection can help save lives,"
In his lecture, Dr Chhina warned people against using self-medication. Self-medication, without consulting qualified medical professional may hide the warning signs of dengue fever thus, resulting in delayed diagnosis and more complications, Pregnant women, infants and old people and those with co-morbid conditions like diabetes, pre-existing liver or kidney ailments are likely to have more complications.
