ORS Day Observed
In view of Oral Rehydration Salt Solution (ORS) Week, being celebrated all over the world from 25th to 31stJuly 2017, Department of Pediatrics in association with Ludhiana Academy of Pediatrics organized a role play on the theme “ORS:Only Rational Solution”.
The play was conducted by students of College of Nursing, where importance of ORS (Oral Rehydration Salt Solution) in treating dehydration as a cost effective method was stressed upon. It was said that Diarrhoea is one of the five major causes of death among the children.
During the role play, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics- Dr Shruti Kakkar said that Diarrhoea can be prevented by following various preventive measures, which includes maintaining proper hygiene, using clean water for drinking, safe sanitation, exclusive breast-feeding, proper immunization and washing hands with soap before feeding the baby. She also stressed upon use of Zinc in all cases of diarrhea for 10-14 days as it can reduce volume, frequency and duration of diarrhea episodes significantly.
Poster competition was also held where nursing students highlighted how to detect signs of dehydration and to prepare ORS solution hygienically. On this occasion prizes were distributed by Principal Dr .Sandeep Puri, Dr Deepak Bhat (Professor of Pediatrics),Dr Gurdeep Singh Dhoria (Associate Professor of Pediatrics) and Dr Triza Jiwan, Principal, College of Nursing College, DMCH to winning participants including Kamalpreet, Harpreet and Jaspreet Kaur .
