CME on Pediatric Nephrology
Ludhiana Academy of Pediatricsin association with Department of Pediatrics, Dayanand Medical College &Hospital , Ludhiana organized a one day,ContinuedMedical Education programme (CME) titled "Nephrology in NutShell" for the practicing pediatricians of the region. The CME was held under the guidelines of Indian academy of paediatrics (parent organisation of IAP). Dr Gurdeep Singh Dhooria, Pediatric Nephrologist from DMCH,Ludhiana was the organising secretary for the CME. The CME was attended by more than 100 pediatricians of Ludhiana and other districts of Punjab. The faculty included speakers from New Delhi, PGI Chandigarh and DMC & H Ludhiana.The topics included Urinary tract infections, Hematuria, Nephrotic syndrome and Acute/chronic renal Injury.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Kanav Anand, National cooordinator for the CME stated, that during childhood and infancy, urinary tract infections are the commonest missed out infections which can lead to serious complications later on. To avoid irreversible damage to kidneys, one should be very alert in detecting urinary tract infections at a very early age. Other causes could be congenital disorders and one should screen for these disorders. Dr Dhooria elaborated the need for proper classification of children of Nephrotic syndrome before initiating the treatment. Healso stressed the need to ensure completion of proper duration of therapy rather than giving treatment haphazardly.
Dr Manoj Kumar Sobtirenowed Neurosurgeon represented the Punjab Medical Council. He stressed the need for such programmes so that doctors can update their knowledge with latest information regarding treatment of common diseases in children. Dr Puneet A Pooni, Head of Department, Pediatrics, DrPuneet Juneja& Dr Harpreet Singh Nagi, President & Secretary for Ludhiana Academy of Pediatrics were also present.
