World Hypertension Day

                                                                                                 World Hypertension Day observed         17th May.2016

World Hypertension Day was observed today in the premises of Hero DMC Heart Institute. The day was celebrated jointly by College of Nursing and Dr Mohinder P. Sambhi-DMCH Hypertension Clinic. The theme of World Hypertension Day (WHD) is ‘Know Your Numbers’ with the goal of increasing high blood pressure awareness in all populations around the world. The function was inaugurated by Vice President of DMCH Managing Society-Sh Gian Chand Dhawan and Secretary of DMCH Managing Society-Sh Prem Kumar Gupta. Also present on the occasion were Principal Dr Sandeep Puri, Vice Principal & Chief Cardiologist Dr GS Wander, Dean Academics Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina, Medical Supdts Dr Sandeep Sharma and Dr Ashwani Chaudhary. Dr Mohinder P Sambhi Hypertension Chair and Clinic was set up in Research and Development Centre of DMCH in the year 2014  with main aim of targeting hypertensive individuals by organising such BP detection camps and public health lectures along with dedicated health care personnel to control the rising trends of hypertension.  

Hypertension damages the functioning of brain, heart and kidneys and also leads to death, said Chief Cardiologist Dr GS Wander while cautioning people not to ignore it. 

Addressing the gathering of audience, Dr Sarabjit said hypertension is a silent killer, as there are no symptoms to identify the disease in initial stages. “The people who regularly drink and smoke, the functioning of brain in such cases is affected up to 20 per cent due to hypertension”, she stressed. Ms. Nidhi Kumar (Asst. Prof, College of Nursing) said that awareness programmes for the people are conducted today to raise awareness about Hypertension disease. People should follow a strict diet to reduce the effects of hypertension and proper medication is compulsory to control it, she said. Other highlights of the programme include Poster and Model Competition, Role Play and free Blood Pressure Screening and Diet Consultancy. Around 250 persons were screened for Blood Pressure Screening.  The function got concluded with prize distribution ceremony moderated by Dr Shibba Thakkar.
